Frequently asked questions
Price, regulations, infill, lead time: the answers to the most common questions before ordering.
Vocabulary and choice
What is the difference between a balustrade, a handrail and a guard-rail?
"Guard-rail" is the generic regulatory term, "handrail" evokes a more functional piece, "balustrade" a stronger decorative register (balusters, scrollwork, patterns) — often chosen for a terrace or balcony visible from outside. The height and gap thresholds are identical in every case.
Can a wrought iron balustrade be installed indoors?
Yes — see our dedicated indoor balustrade page. Nothing stops this decorative register being used indoors, it's mostly outdoors that this vocabulary is more common.
Price and lead time
How much does a wrought iron balustrade cost?
Price is per linear metre, from €80 (handrail only) to €650 (ornate scrollwork) depending on the infill chosen — see our pricing page for the detail.
What is the fabrication lead time?
Count on 4 to 6 weeks between quote approval and delivery, confirmed at the quote stage depending on the workshop's workload.
Regulations and safety
What is the minimum height for a guard-rail?
1.00 m, measured from the tread nose for a staircase or the finished floor level elsewhere — NF P01-012 standard, see our dedicated page.
What is the maximum gap between infill elements?
11 cm, at any point in the pattern — a threshold that a dense decorative pattern can exceed without it being obvious before fitting.
